Things To Do in humboldt park

About

Join professional guide and local resident Eduardo Arocho on a walk through Humboldt Park. Located on Chicago’s Northwest Side, the Division Street area (a.k.a. Paseo Boricua), with its stores and restaurants, is home to Chicago’s Puerto Rican community.

Humboldt Park has been the symbolic nucleus of Puerto Rican Chicago since the 1960s. Some 80 murals, Spanish colonial inspired architecture and a visit to La Casita de Don Pedro reflect that heritage and longevity of the Puerto Rican Community in Humboldt Park.

This thought-provoking tour explores the history of this iconic neighborhood through the public art proudly displayed along the six blocks of Division Street and in Humboldt Park.

Paseo Boricua Tour Company was created by a lifelong resident, historian, poet, arts/community activist, entrepreneur and tour guide with first-hand knowledge of Humboldt Park, the Puerto Rican community in Chicago and Puerto Rican history. We designed these tours to provide you with a fresh and inspiring experience into one of the most unique cultural & commercial districts in Chicago.

Your tour will be led by Eduardo Arocho, who has over 28 years of experience leading tours of Chicago's Puerto Rican community. Born and raised in Humboldt Park where he currently resides, Arocho has a M.S. in Human Services Administration from Spertus College in Chicago and a B.A. in History and Spanish Literature from Northeastern Illinois University. In 2020, after 10 years as Executive Director of the Division Street Business Development Association, Arocho created the Paseo Boricua Tour Company to continue to share the story and experience of Paseo Boricua.

Arocho’s experience began in 1994, as a volunteer Docent at the then Dr. Pedro Albizu Campos Museum of Puerto Rican History and Culture, located on the corner of Le Moyne and California Ave. In 1997, Arocho was asked by The Chicago Cultural Center to be the Tour Guide for their Wicker Park/ Humboldt Park Neighborhood Bus Tours. By 2000, Arocho had begun to do walking tours of Paseo Boricua and Humboldt Park on a regular basis.  These tours became a program of the Division Street Business Development Association, bringing students and visitors from all over the country. Arocho has also led tours of The National Museum of Puerto Rican Arts & Culture and has joined with the Polish Museum of Chicago and The Dank Haus Cultural Center for special tours of Humboldt Park, sponsored by the Chicago Cultural Alliance.
